Care model

What a Sunhouse Babysitter looks like.

A Sunhouse Babysitter comes in two shapes. A casual Babysitter covers evenings, appointments, events, and work coverage. Casual bookings are often same-day or last-minute, scheduled when you need them.

A regular Babysitter is pre-scheduled weekly or monthly with your favourite sitter, a few hours at a time, on a rhythm that fits your family.

A Nanny is the right call when the schedule is full days, full weeks, or ongoing routines like school runs, meals, naps, and developmental activities. See Nanny placements for that.

Book online

Booking a Babysitter takes about 3 minutes.

1

Tell us what you need.

Submit the booking form with your date, time, neighbourhood, child ages, routines, allergies, pets, parking, and any safety notes.

2

We match a screened sitter.

Every Sunhouse Babysitter is hand-picked by sisters Nicole and April. The on-call team is built one sitter at a time, all interviewed, reference-checked, CPR-certified, and already trusted by other Sunhouse families. When you submit a booking, the Sunhouse system finds the right match from that trusted team based on location, your children's ages, and each sitter's experience.

3

You receive the full sitter profile.

When the booking is confirmed, you see the sitter's profile, photo, and background. You can request the same sitter again for future bookings.

Questions

Babysitter Vancouver FAQs

How much do Babysitters charge in Vancouver?
Sunhouse Babysitter rates start at $22/hour for one child, $24 for two, and $26 for three. Newborn care (0 to 3 months) is $35/hour, hotel and Airbnb bookings are $28/hour, and overnight care is $450 for a 24-hour period. Families not on a membership also pay a $35 +GST agency booking fee per booking, and rates are paid directly to the sitter.
How do I book a Babysitter in Vancouver?
Start online with the booking form. Share the date, time, neighbourhood, child ages, routines, pets, parking, and any safety notes. Sunhouse matches the booking when a screened sitter is available.
How quickly can a Babysitter be booked?
Same-day bookings are possible depending on roster availability. Members on a monthly babysitting membership get priority access for last-minute requests. Reach out as early as you can and Sunhouse will confirm availability quickly.
Can I request the same Babysitter again?
Yes. Families can request favourite sitters for future bookings. Sunhouse cannot guarantee every sitter for every date, but continuity is prioritized whenever schedules line up.
What is the legal age to babysit in BC?
BC has no law setting a minimum babysitting age. Provincial guidance suggests children under about 10 should not be left home alone, and recognized babysitting courses begin at age 11. Every Sunhouse Babysitter is a screened, reference-checked, CPR-certified sitter, so families are matched with experienced care rather than a young neighbour.
Is a Nanny or daycare more expensive than a Babysitter?
Daycare is usually the lowest-cost option, a Nanny is the premium choice for one-to-one ongoing care, and babysitting sits in between for flexible, as-needed care. If you are weighing the options, see our nanny vs daycare in Vancouver guide.
Can Sunhouse help while I wait for daycare or $10-a-day childcare?
Yes. Many Vancouver families use babysitting or a monthly membership as backup while they wait on daycare or $10-a-day waitlists, or when daycare hours do not fit. See daycare alternatives in Vancouver.
Does Sunhouse cover hotels and Airbnbs in Vancouver?
Yes. Sunhouse Babysitters cover hotel and short-term-rental stays throughout Metro Vancouver, including Downtown, Yaletown, Coal Harbour, and the airport area. Visiting-family bookings are charged at the hotel/Airbnb rate ($28/hour).
Which Vancouver neighbourhoods does Sunhouse cover?
Sunhouse Babysitters cover Vancouver and Metro Vancouver, including Downtown, Yaletown, Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant, Commercial Drive, and Point Grey, plus Burnaby, Richmond, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and the Tri-Cities.
What is the difference between a Babysitter and a Nanny?
A Babysitter is short-term, flexible care: a few hours at a time, evenings out, occasional weeks, or a small recurring slot. A Nanny is long-term, regular care: full or part-time, school runs, meals, routines. See Nanny Vancouver for Nanny details.
